Cupping and Moxibustion

Cupping and Moxabustion

Loosen muscles, stimulate circulation, and promote blood flow and invigoration of vital substances

CUPPING

Cupping is one of the oldest healing traditions worldwide, dating back to 300 BCE. The practice involves placing cups containing reduced air pressure on the skin through either using a heat source or hand-held device.

Benefits of Cupping:

  • Dispels stagnant blood, and enhance the flow of lymph and vital substances

  • Loosen scar tissue and soften muscles

  • Increase circulation and support the immune system, which helps the body heal from injuries more quickly

  • Promotes a feeling of relaxing invigoration

  • Can be used independently or in conjuncture with acupuncture and phlebotomy

MOXABUSTION

Moxa (艾) is derived from the Mugwort plant (Artemesia). Medical historians believe that the practice of Moxabustion predates acupuncture and originated in China and Japan, eventually spreading to other Asian countries. The practice involves heating a minute amount of dried mugwort cones on designated parts of the body, generally the same as acupuncture points.

Benefits of Moxabustion:

  • Stimulates circulation

  • Helps the body restore and/or induces a smoother flow of vital substances

  • Increase circulation and support the immune system, which helps the body heal from injuries more quickly

  • Great treatment for deficient conditions, pediatric and geriatric patients

  • Burns in the infrared spectrum
